Since Cushing and Dandy reported their cases about “monstrous” vascular malformations with high mortality index in 1928, neurosurgery has been dedicating efforts to study such complex pathology among the most important ones in the modern medicine. Cerebral vascular malformation is a relatively rare pathology and its prevalence is difficult to estimate since a few number of affected individuals remain symptomatic. The classification contemplates size, local and venous draining territory. Those malformations are congenital results of an anomalous cerebral development. Physiopathology, angioarchitecture and natural history distinguish many types of malformations such as arteriovenous malformations (AVM), venous angiomas, cavernous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas and capillary telangiectasy. The AVMs are dilated tortuous vessel masses characterized by direct connections between arteries and veins (shunts) without a capillary net interposition. A peculiar type of large brain AVM with multiple non dominant arterial feeders to a lobar or hemispheric nidus, relatively small draining veins associated to intermingled normal brain and angiographic evidence of capillary angioectasia and angiogenetic activity determines an atypical entity named cerebral proliferative angiopathy (CPA). Rare vascular pathologies associated with skin and other organ lesions designate neurocutaneous angiomatosis syndrome. Sturge Weber syndrome (SWS) and Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome (ROWS) are examples of it . We report a female with an atypical diffuse lobar cerebral proliferative angiopathy (CPA).

Diffuse Proliferative Cerebral Angiopathy: A case report and review of the literature.
Diffuse proliferative cerebral angiopathy is a distinct entity from cerebral arterio-venous malformations; characterized by multiple small arterial feeders and draining veins with normal brain parenchyma seen in-between the abnormal vessels. It is usually seen in younger age group. Here we report a case of diffuse cerebral proliferative angiopathy in a 78-year-old female patient along with disc...
متن کاملAcute Hemiparesis in a Child as a Presenting Symptom of Hemispheric Cerebral Proliferative Angiopathy
A 9-year-old girl with a several-month history of unilateral intermittent headaches presented to the hospital with worsening headaches and unsteadiness. Neurologic exam was positive for a mild right hemiparesis and right homonymous hemianopsia. Noncontrast computed tomography revealed an engorged sagittal and straight sinus with prominent cortical veins concerning an arteriovenous malformation ...
متن کاملCerebral amyloid angiopathy presenting as a mass lesion.
A rare clinical presentation of cerebral amyloid angiopathy is reported. Our patient presented with the clinical and radiological signs of a right frontal mass lesion suggesting a brain tumor, and a biopsy provided the diagnosis of cerebral amyloid angiopathy. A brief review of the pathology and clinical features of cerebral amyloid angiopathy is presented.
متن کاملNo neuropathological evidence for a direct topographical relation between microbleeds and cerebral amyloid angiopathy
INTRODUCTION Cerebral microbleeds correspond to blood breakdown products, including hemosiderin-containing macrophages around small vessels on histological examination. Superficial lobar cerebral microbleeds are increasingly recognized on MRI as a biomarker of cerebral amyloid angiopathy but the direct association between amyloid-laden vessels burden and cerebral microbleeds has yet to be valid...
متن کاملPostpartum cerebral angiopathy with cerebral infarction due to ergonovine use.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Earlier cases of stroke due to postpartum cerebral angiopathy have been reported. The mechanism of this angiopathy has not been explained. CASE DESCRIPTION We present a case of cerebral infarction with evidence of occlusive change in the vertebrobasilar system as a complication of intravenous ergonovine use after cesarean section delivery. CONCLUSIONS Ergonovine thera...
